The wall

She builds it up brick by brick. He stands on the other side. He gives her a hand. Somethings just shouldn't be. For a while they're busy. For a while they're just doing another thing together. In tune with each other, sharing their task. For a while its ok. They're together.

He looks into her eyes. She looks up at him. Those stormy eyes. She looks into them one last time. Sinking into the depths. He draws a deep breath and looks away. No. It just can't be.

She places another brick in its place very neatly. She's proud of her hard work. Its built up to her chin now. You've got to have a reason to live. Something that moves you. Someone that anchors you so it doesn't matter how far you go, you keep going back.

She frowns. She isn't that someone in his life. Through the last little gap in the wall, she looks through at him. He isn't looking at her anymore. There's someone else there. She frowns. Should she wait to say good-bye, or should she place the last brick?
