.
I have a little demon
He sits on my left shoulder.
And whenever he sees I'm not looking
He's up to some mischief or other.
My little demon is portly
He's plump and cute and cuddly.
He's captivating and charming
And downright disarming.
Yesterday my little demon
Was blue 'cos I didn't pay attention.
And he tugged and tugged at my collar
And whispered and whispered in my ear.
He was telling me to look at something
I was sure I would regret to see.
So I gave him a little scold
So he'd behave a little less bold.
But my demon is very clever
And yesterday's blues have flown over.
And today he is a good boy
All nice and obedient and sly.
There's some mischief brewing, I'm sure
Because this has happened before.
And yesterday's scold I will regret
And success will failure beget.
With swiftness to make me dizzy
I find that my demon has been busy.
He's managed to gain my confidence
And taken advantage of circumstance.
And today I'm looking at the sight
He's pointing to me with delight.
And Oh! how I'm enjoying the moment
All but lost in its enthrallment.
Oh! naughty little demon!
You unchristian catechumen!
If you weigh so heavy on me now
I wish you will never grow.
For then you will sit in my lap
And yap and yap and yap.
And that would be my death knell
Because you know me too well.
